Owen Freeman and Iowa will open 2025 with a Big Ten battle in college basketball against John Tonje and Wisconsin at the Kohl Center.
Iowa will travel to Madison, Wisconsin on Friday night in a Big Ten Conference clash in college basketball. The Iowa Hawkeyes (10-3, 1-1) came away from non-conference play in the first two months of the season with just two losses and nine wins. They lost only one time in November against Utah State in the Hall of Fame Classic. Their only non-conference loss in December came against the No. 3 ranked team in the nation, Iowa State, by nine points.
They played two conference games in the Big Ten to start December, beating Northwestern by one point and losing to Michigan by two points. They ended 2024 with three wins against New Orleans, Utah, and New Hampshire. Owen Freeman, who has appeared in 11 of the 13 games for Iowa, leads the team in scoring. The 6-foot-10 forward is averaging 17.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Wisconsin Badgers (10-3, 0-2) won double-digit non-conference games in the first two months. They came away 10-1 against teams not in the Big Ten conference, including a huge win over former No. 5 ranked Marquette by 14 points. They also took down former No. 9 ranked Arizona by almost 20 points in November.
They did open conference play with two games in December and lost both of them. The first was at home against Michigan by three points and then again on the road against Illinois by six points. Senior guard John Tonje leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 19.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
