Illinois-Chicago will travel to Normal, Illinois, on Sunday afternoon in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown in men’s college basketball. In Normal, they will take the court at the CEFCU Arena against the hometown Illinois State. The Redbirds head into this weekend with an 8-4 record overall and an 0-1 record in the conference. They have played five games this month already, starting with a two-point overtime loss to Belmont on the road. They bounced back with a win over Pacific at home by 11 points in the next game.
They made it two straight wins against Saint Louis by four points at home before beating Northern Illinois at home by 21 points, led by 17 points from Dalton Banks. Nazir Williams led the team with 19 points in their last win against Cornell on the road by three points. However, it is sophomore forward Chase Walker who leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
The Flames enter this weekend with a record almost as good as Illinois State. They are 7-4 overall and also 0-1 against teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. They lost their first game of the month against Northern Iowa and have since won four straight games, bringing that momentum on the road with them tonight.
They were able to get the best of Dartmouth at home in overtime followed by Little Rock on the road in overtime. Their last game ended in an 11-point win on the road over Seattle U, led by Ahmad Henderson II, who had 14 points. Javon Jackson leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 12.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
