Harvard will head on the road at the end of the first week of men’s college basketball, taking on Navy at Alumni Hall in Annapolis, Maryland, on Friday night as a part of the Veterans Classic. The Crimson started their season with a win. They took on Marist on Monday, men’s college basketball opening night, winning 79-66 at home. They held a seven-point lead at the halftime break and won the second half by another six points. Robert Hinton, a freshman guard for Harvard, dominated in the win with 27 points and four rebounds on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor. No other player for Harvard was in double figures, although several had nine points. Austin Hunt, another freshman guard, had nine points in 10 minutes off the bench, with four rebounds and two assists. Luca Ace-Nasteski also had nine points and two rebounds as a starter.
The Midshipmen were not able to get a win in their first game after losing a tough battle on the road against Atlantic 10 team Saint Joseph’s by just seven points. They were up five points at the halftime break but lost steam in the second 20 minutes. They lost by eight points in the second half. Junior guard Austin Benigni led the team with 23 points and three assists shooting 53% from the floor.
Aidan Kehoe had 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss also shooting a high percentage from the floor. Jordan Pennick was the only other player on the team with double figures ending with 11 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes. Sam Krist was the only player to score off the bench contributing six points.
