Davidson will face off with the No. 3 ranked team in the country, Gonzaga, in the fifth-place game of the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. They will take the court on Friday night at Imperial Arena for the third time in as many days. The Bulldogs came into this tournament undefeated. They did take down the preseason No. 8 ranked Baylor in the first game of the season. They took on West Virginia in the first round of this tournament and lost in overtime, 86-78. Despite the loss, Braden Huff dropped 19 points and Ryan Nembhard dished out 12 assists.
With the No. 14 team in the country, Indiana, also losing in the first round, these two teams met in the consolation semifinal. They beat the Hoosiers by 16 points. Khalif Battle dropped 16 points and five rebounds. Ryan Nembhard scored 11 points and dished out 13 assists. Both Michael Ajayi and Nolan Hickman had 15 points each in the win with Ajayi also pulling down nine rebounds.
The Wildcats also come into this game with just one loss on the resume to date. They were undefeated heading into the tournament with multiple home win and one road win. They opened the tournament with the No. 24 ranked team in the country, Arizona, and lost decisively 104-71. Connor Kochera led the team with 20 points in the loss. Bobby Durkin led the team in rebounding and assists with 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
They matched up with Providence in the consolation semifinals and won by 11 points against the Big East school. Kochera dropped 22 points with five rebounds. Durkin had 20 points and four rebounds. Reed Bailey had the team’s only double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds with four assists.
