Fairleigh Dickinson will head on the road to end the first week of college basketball, taking on the No. 15 ranked team in the nation, Creighton, at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on Sunday night. The Bluejays came away with a win in their first game of the season on Wednesday. They won their season opener at home against UT Rio Grande Valley, 99-86. Creighton went into the halftime break with an eight-point lead before putting on the breaks a little in the second half, winning by 13.
Ryan Kalkbrenner, the senior in his fifth season with Creighton, had a massive stat line in the win. He had 49 points on an almost perfect 20-for-22 shooting and 11 rebounds. He arguably had the best first game for any collegiate basketball player to start the season. Steven Ashworth also dominated with a 25-point, seven-rebound, and seven-assist stat line.
The Knights lost their first game of the season on the road at Miami on college basketball’s opening night on Monday. They were handed a big loss, 113-72. Three of the team’s starters ended in double figures led by sophomore guard Terrence Brown who had 18 points, four rebounds, and two assists on 8-of-14 shooting.
Dylan Jones, a junior guard in his first season, dropped 15 points all from threes. He shot 5-for-10 from behind the arc. Jo’el Emanuel had 13 points, five rebounds, and two assists also in the loss. Nine players came off the bench led in scoring by Brayden Reynolds who had six points, two rebounds, and two assists in 24 minutes.
