TK Simpkins and Elon will take the court against RJ Davis and No. 9 North Carolina on Monday night.
Elon will head on the road on the opening night of men’s college basketball to take on the No. 9 ranked team in the nation, North Carolina, at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Monday night. The Tar Heels draw a No. 9 ranked on the preseason AP Poll despite losing long-time leading rebounder and star, Armando Bacot. However, they do return the reigning ACC Player of the Year, RJ Davis, who averaged 21.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game last season.
Elliot Cadeau is projected to make a huge leap for this team after averaging just 7.3 points and 4.1 assists per game while being left wide open at the three-point line. This team did add several transfer players who are projected to take on a big role, including Ven-Allen Lubin from Vanderbilt and Cade Tyson from Belmont. The team also brought in two top-50 freshmen including Ian Jackson and Drake Powell, projected first-round NBA Draft picks.
Pair the aforementioned with the defensive prowess of Seth Trimble, North Carolina will be looking for a good test before taking on the No. 1 ranked team in the country on Friday. The Phoenix are looking forward to an exciting season including the return of their leading scorer last season in TK Simpkins. The junior guard averaged 13.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists last year.
They also returned Sam Sherry, a senior forward who is projected to take a bigger role on the team this season. He averaged 9.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last year. They did, in the transfer portal, lose Max MacKinnon to Portland. You will not want to miss this regular-season opening game for these two teams.
