Stephen Okoro and Detroit Mercy will take the court against Jayden Dawson and Loyola-Chicago on Thursday night.
Detroit Mercy will head on the road at the end of this week in men’s college basketball to Chicago, Illinois, taking on Loyola-Chicago at Gentile Arena on Thursday night. The Ramblers took down Chicago State in the team’s first game of the season on college basketball’s opening night. They won 79-72, led by guard Jayden Dawson, who had 20 points, three rebounds, and three threes. Justin Moore, the Drexel transfer, and Des Watson, the former Davidson Wildcat, both had 14 points. Moore also had seven assists and two rebounds, while Watson had eight rebounds and two assists. Jalen Deloach, a senior transfer from Georgia, had nine points and six rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench. Jalen Quinn also had nine points off the bench.
The Titans were able to get a win in their first game of the season earlier this week after taking down Clearly University, 91-52. It didn’t take long for this team to break away in the game heading into the halftime break with a 12-point lead, holding Clearly University to just 28 first-half points and even less in the second half.
Three of the five starters for Detroit Mercy finished in double-figures, including Orlando Lovejoy, the Eastern Michigan transfer, and Stephen Okoro, who tied for the lead at 13 points. Okoro, the true freshman, also had 10 points in the team’s only double-double of the night. Mak Manciel also had 12 points and five rebounders
