In the opening game of the Summit League season, the Denver Pioneers travel to play the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at First Bank & Trust Arena. Coming into conference play, the Jackrabbits are currently 9-6 on the season with the most recent game being played against No. 5 Alabama on Sunday. The team played hard, but ended up falling 105-82 in Tuscaloosa. In the loss, Oscar Cluff led the Jackrabbits with 21 points and 15 rebounds to earn a double-double against a very strong Crimson Tide roster. Isaac Lindsey added an additional 11 points as the only other player to reach double figures for South Dakota State. On the season, Cluff leads the team in scoring with an average of 16.9 points per game.

The Pioneers will look to inch closer to that .500 mark with a win on Thursday as the team is currently 6-9 ahead of the conference opener. The latest game was played against Northern Colorado and resulted in an 82-75 loss at home, marking the team’s third loss in a row. Nicholas Shogbonyo led the offense with a 21-point performance and also pulled down five rebounds. Three other Pioneers scored in double figures as Josh Lee scored 14 points while Sebastian Akins and DeAndre Craig each added 12 to the scoreboard.
South Dakota State and Denver met three times last season and the Jackrabbits won two out of the three games. The final meeting of the season took place in the Summit League Tournament championships in which South Dakota State earned a 76-68 win to take the title.
