Delaware State will travel to Austin, Texas, this weekend in men’s college basketball. In Austin, they will take on Texas at the Moody Center on Friday night. The Longhorns are 5-1 overall this season. They opened the year as the No. 19 ranked team in the nation and lost by eight points in their season opener to Ohio State in the Hall of Fame Series in Las Vegas. They bounced back and have won five games since that loss. They beat Houston Christian at home by 31 points followed by Chicago State by 47 points.
They welcomed Mississippi Valley State to the Moody Center and beat them by 46. They then won the UGK Legends Classic tournament, beating Syracuse in the first round by four points and Saint Joseph’s in the championship by nine points. After losing Tyrese Hunter, freshman Tre Johnson stepped up and is averaging 21.2 points per game with 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Arthur Kaluma averages 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds.
The Hornets head into this game with seven games on the season and just three wins. They lost two games to open the season against Virginia Tech and Columbia. After starting the season 0-2, they won two straight games, beating Geynedd-Mercy and Cheyney (PA). They would go on to lose two more games on the road against Providence and Mount St Marys.
In their most recent game, they went back home and beat Wilkes-Barre. Martaz Robinson leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 17.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. Closely following him is Kaseem Watson, who is averaging 13.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
