No. 23 San Diego State goes for its fifth win in a row when it hosts California for this in-state matchup on Saturday night. The Aztecs are coming off an 81-75 win over California Baptist last week in a game that was likely too close for comfort. The Golden Bears will be a tougher matchup as these two play in a neutral site matchup in San Jose, Calif. SDSU improved to 7-2 to open the season after Miles Byrd led the team with 19 points and 15 of those came in the second half.

That performance was crucial because the Aztecs were outscored by one in the second despite putting up one more than they did in the first with 41. Nick Boyd added 16 points and a career high eight assists. San Diego State came out the gate firing after halftime scoring eight of its first nine baskets in the second. The Aztecs went on a 14-2 scoring run and racked up a 19-point lead. But California Baptist went on a 24-9 run of its own to get the game back within two possessions. San Diego State must keep its foot on the gas if it is going to keep its winning ways rolling tonight. The Aztecs still should be the favorite tonight though.
Cal is coming off a 84-66 win against Northwestern State that ended a three-game losing streak last Saturday. Andrej Stojakovic had a phenomenal game scoring a career-high 31 points shooting 10-of-14 from the field and added seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Stojakovic has scored 20 or more points in six of the last eight games for Cal. He will likely need at least that again tonight to pull of this upset against a ranked opponent.
