The Pete Hanna Center is set to host the exciting weekend matchup between Samford and Austin Peay State on Sunday in men’s college basketball action. The college basketball landscape had several exciting matchups on the schedule to kick off the weekend of play. First, on Friday, No. 19-ranked Illinois paid a visit to Northwestern at Welsh-Ryan Arena. The Wildcats were able to pull off the upset at home following a four-point victory. Nick Martinelli led the team with 27 points to go along with six rebounds, while Brooks Barnhizer added 17 points and nine boards on the night. Jalen Leach also had 16 points and five assists in the home win. Meanwhile, Kasparas Jakucionis led the Fighting Illini with 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the team’s second loss of the season.

In other action around the nation, No. 5 Marquette went up against No. 11 Wisconsin on Saturday at the Fiserv Forum. The Golden Eagles established dominance and came away with a 14-point win at home over the Badgers. Kameron Jones had a game-high 32 points for Marquette, while Max Klesmit led Wisconsin with 22 points.
Meanwhile, No. 20 UNC went up against Georgia Tech on Saturday as well at the Dean Smith Center. The Tar Heels won by just three points to take their record to 5-4 on the season.
Finally, No. 18 Pittsburgh took a five-point win over Virginia Tech, thanks to 19 points from Jalan Lowe. Ishmael Leggett added 17 points of his own in the win away from home.
