Albany will travel to Washington D.C. on Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Georgetown in men’s basketball action.
On Saturday afternoon, The University of Albany will travel to take on Georgetown in an early season non-conference matchup at Capital One Arena. The Great Danes come into Saturday’s contest with a record of 5-2. The team’s most recent outing was played against American on Sunday and resulted in an 81-77 loss to close out the Puerto Rico Classico. American took the lead from the very beginning of the game and never lost it. The Great Danes were able to bring the score within two points with less than a minute remaining, but that’s the closest they would come to forcing overtime. Justin Neely came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points and he also grabbed seven rebounds. Byron Joshua added an additional 17 points and six rebounds in the game, shooting a perfect six for six from the free throw line.

The Hoyas have gotten off to a strong start this season and enter the game with a 5-1 record so far. The latest game for the Georgetown was played on Tuesday and resulted in a 66-41 win on the road over Wagner. The first half was back and forth between the two teams, but the Hoyas were able to take, and maintain, the lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
With five minutes left in the game, the Hoyas stretched the lead to 65-29. In the win, Malik Mack led all scorers with 16 points while Michan Peavy added another 15 points and had a game-high five steals. Thomas Sorber led on the boards with seven rebounds and added nine points to the stat sheet.
Saturday’s game between the Great Danes and the Hoyas will be the first meeting between the two schools. Albany’s next game will be played against Columbia on Wednesday and Georgetown will take on UMBC.
