    Johnathan Bennett and the Citadel will take the field against Hunter Rice and VMI on Saturday afternoon.

    The Citadel will head on the road in Week 8 of the college football season to take on the Virginia Military Institute at Foster Stadium in Lexington, Virginia. The Bulldogs head into this week with a 2-5 record through the first seven weeks of the season yet to have a bye week. After going 2-1 in the first three weeks including a 54-0 shutout win over North Greenville, they have since lost four straight games. They lost 38-21 at Mercer in Week 4 followed by a 34-17 loss at home against East Tennessee in Week 5. Week 6 was no better than losing to Furham at home 17-16, and last week, they lost 30-16 on the road again at Western Carolina. They will look to break that streak here today. Their senior starting quarterback Johnathan Bennett has thrown for 1,211 yards and five touchdowns with six interceptions. He has also become a dual-threat quarterback rushing for 296 yards and three more scores on the ground.

    The Keydets are winless coming into this game today losing six straight games this season. They have lost four games on the road to William and Mary, Georgia Tech, Samford, and most recently Wofford 31-16. They have also lost at home twice to Bucknell and Norfolk State.

    True freshman quarterback Brady Hammonds leads the team under center. He has thrown for 299 yards and just one touchdown with four interceptions. The ground game has been the biggest threat for this team thus far. Hunter Rice, the senior back, has ran 100 times for 423 yards and three touchdowns averaging 4.2 yards per carry.
