Saturday’s ACC slate includes a cross-country meeting and a first-time conference matchup. In a Week 12 game, Syracuse (6-3, 3-3 ACC) makes the trip out west to take on California (5-4, 1-4 ACC) at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. This will become a more regular matchup in the future with Cal having joined the ACC this year, but it will be just the third time these teams have ever played and their first meeting since the two teams split a home-and-home in 1967 and 1968.

Cal’s offense comes into this game rolling after its two highest-scoring games of the year. Two weeks ago the Golden Bears blew out Oregon State 44-7, then last week outlasted Wake Forest 46-36 to pick up their first ever conference win as an ACC member. That offense has helped a Cal defense that leads the ACC by allowing a conference low 19.3 points per game entering the week.
Syracuse comes into this matchup after a pair of close games the last two weeks. The Orange beat Virginia Tech 38-31 in overtime two weeks ago, then fell at Boston College last week in a 37-31 game.
The new ACC alignment has created tough road trips for teams, with an East Coast team going all the way west, or a West Coast team going all the way east. For Syracuse, they already have some experience with a trip like this having played UNLV earlier this season. The Orange won that game 44-41 in overtime.
