After a thrilling finish to a monumental Apple Cup, Washington State looks to improve to 4-0 when it hosts San Jose State Friday.
We have an undefeated battle in Pullman, Washington Friday night when Washington State hosts San Jose State. The Cougars are likely to have all the momentum for this home game because they are coming off one of their biggest wins in recent memory after beating their biggest rival Washington last week. WSU reclaimed the Apple Cup in a thriller beating the Huskies in Seattle 24-19. It was played at a neutral site (Lumen Field home of the Seattle Seahawks) and a non-conference meeting for the first time in more than 60 years for these longtime Pac-10 & 12 rivals. John Mateer showed up big for the Cougars with three total touchdowns. Mateer ran for two scores but it was Washington State’s defense that saved the day late. The Cougars ended Washington’s comeback by stopping the Huskies on a fourth-and-goal play from the one-yard line with just over a minute left to play. It was just the third time the Cougars have won the Apple Cup since 2008.
