UConn (4-3) wraps up its ‘Owl Series’ this Saturday when Rice (2-5, 1-3 AAC) pays the Huskies a visit at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in Hartford. As part of their independent schedule this year UConn plays three of the four teams at the FBS level that use ‘Owls’ as their mascot (Kennesaw State is the fourth), with the games coming every other week for the last month and a half. The stretch started with a 48-14 blowout win over Florida Atlantic, followed by a narrow 29-20 win over Temple two games ago that saw the Huskies recover a fumble for a touchdown on a goal line stop on the final play. Now, a win over Rice will give them the sweep.

Those two wins came as part of a three-game winning streak for UConn, as Jim Mora’s team started to right the ship after a 1-2 start to the season. However the Huskies lost that winning streak last week, dropping a 23-20 game at home against Wake Forest.
Rice is coming in off a loss as well, after falling to Tulane on the road 24-10 last week. Prior to that the Owls picked up their lone conference win, beating UTSA 29-27 in an in-state matchup.
This week’s game between UConn and Rice is the second half of a home-and-home that began last year. In that meeting – the first ever between the two schools – UConn came away with a 38-31 win in Houston.
