Rice will travel on the road in Week 11 of the college football season to take on Memphis at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday night. The Tigers are 7-2 this season and 3-2 against conference teams in the American Athletic Conference. Their only two losses came against Navy, 56-44, and UTSA in their last game, 44-36. Between the two losses, they beat Middle Tennessee State, 24-7, South Florida, 21-3, North Texas, 52-44, and Charlotte, 33-28.
The loss against UTSA was their worst of the season on the road. They have non-conference wins before their first loss against Florida State, Troy, and North Alabama. Seth Henigan leads the team under center. The senior starting quarterback for Memphis has 2,532 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions, boasting a 54.8 season QBR. His favorite receiver has been senior Roc Taylor who has 46 receptions for 658 yards and two scores, averaging 14.3 yards per reception.
On the other side, the Owls are just 3-6 overall this season and 2-3 against conference teams in the AAC. They took down Navy at home, 24-10 last week, after getting beat by UConn and Tulane in the two games previous. Ironically, their only other conference win came against UTSA, 29-27 at home.
Rice’s only two conference wins are against Memphis’s only two conference losses. Junior quarterback E.J. Warner leads the team under center. He has 1,812 yards and 11 touchdowns with 10 interceptions on the year. Dean Connors leads the rushing attack with 623 yards on 112 carries for eight scores.
