Jax State goes for its ninth win in a row when it faces off in the regular season finale against Western Kentucky Saturday afternoon.
Jacksonville State heads into the regular season finale on Saturday against Western Kentucky already riding high. With a 21-11 win over Sam Houston State last week, the Gamecocks will host the C-USA championship next weekend. Jax State improved to a perfect 7-0 conference record with the win. The Gamecocks have the same record as Sam Houston State and Liberty and those teams play this weekend to have the opportunity to take on Jacksonville State in the title game. The Gamecocks won their eighth game in a row against Sam Houston State to make their first appearance in the Conference USA title game.
The Bearkats were shutout in the first and fourth quarters to seal the victory for Jax State. Quarterback Tyler Huff was a huge factor on the ground rushing for a career-high 177 yards with three touchdowns. This season is such a huge statement as Jax State are one of only five programs to become bowl eligible within their first two seasons of moving up to the FBS level. Even so, Western Kentucky is still the slight -1-point favorite at home this afternoon.

Western Kentucky will have home-field advantage today but it is trying to avoid losing three in a row. The Hilltoppers are coming off a 38-21 loss against Liberty last week. The Flames were just too much of a force on the ground rushing for 419 yards with four touchdowns. Liberty had 556 yards of total offense.
Western Kentucky scored the first touchdown of the game in the second quarter but Liberty scored the next three touchdowns. The Hilltoppers got within a touchdown twice in the third quarter but getting shutout in the fourth quarter sealed Western Kentucky’s fate. Heading home will help the Hilltoppers today but they’ll face arguably an even more formidable offense this week.
