The first FBS bowl game of the season kicks off Saturday as South Alabama battles Western Michigan in the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl
With a new sponsor in place, the IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl kicks off the FBS bowl game slate on Saturday night at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. Previously known as the Camellia Bowl, the 11th edition of the game pits South Alabama (6-6) from the Sun Belt Conference against Mid-American Conference representative Western Michigan (6-6). The Jaguars are 1-3 all-time in bowl games, winning their first last year, and are making their third straight bowl appearance. The Broncos return to a bowl for the first time since 2021 and have a 2-9 record during bowl season.

Western Michigan made its way to bowl eligibility by holding off visiting Eastern Michigan on Nov. 30 for a 26-18 win. Zahir Abdus-Salaam rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown and Jalen Buckley added 103 yards and a score, each on 19 carries, to secure the win. Jaden Nixon leads the rushing attack with 876 yards and 12 TDs while Hayden Wolff has thrown for 2,212 yards and 17 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
South Alabama dropped its regular-season finale on Nov. 29, falling 45-38 to visiting Texas State. Fluff Bothwell rambled for 81 yards and two touchdowns on just six carries while Gio Lopez threw a touchdown pass and added a TD run. Bothwell leads the ground game with 834 yards and 13 scores, with Lopez throwing for 2,557 yards and 18 TDs with five picks. Jamaal Pritchett has 91 catches for 1,126 yards and nine touchdowns.
Lance Taylor is in his second year with the Broncos and is 10-14 after spending one year as the offensive coordinator at Louisville. Major Applewhite is in his first year coaching the Jaguars after being promoted from offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach last January. He was head coach at Houston for two-plus seasons, going 15-11 from 2016-18.
