Grambling State (5-5) can assure no worse than a .500 season when it visits Alabama A&M (4-5) at Crews Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama, on Thursday night. Both the Tigers and Bulldogs come in off wins last weekend, with Alabama A&M 2-3 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, fourth in the East Division, and Grambling State at 2-4, tied for fourth in the West. The Tigers haven’t played in the FCS playoffs since 1989 and coach Mickey Joseph is in his first season after replacing Hue Jackson, fired last November after two seasons. Connell Maynor is 38-31 in his seventh season leading the Bulldogs, taking them to a claimed Black College national title in 2020.

Dedrick Talbert’s 14-yard touchdown run with 6:19 remaining lifted Grambling State to a 24-23 win over visiting Alabama State on Saturday. Keilon Elder picked up 104 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and Tre Bradford also found the end zone on the ground. Deljay Bailey finished 6-of-12 for 76 yards passing with an interception in the win.
The Bulldogs rolled to a 52-24 win at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday behind Donovan Eaglin, who ran for 148 yards and five touchdowns on 26 carries. Xavier Lankford was 5-of-9 through the air for 84 yards, a scoring pass and picks while Isaiah Nkokenkwo picked up 114 yards on 19 carries. Alabama A&M piled up 356 yards on the ground and 505 yards of total offense.
The Tigers are 21-8 all-time against the Bulldogs, but Alabama A&M has won the last two matchups, including a 45-24 win at Grambling on Oct. 14, 2023. Bailey has been playing in place of injured Myles Crawley (high ankle sprain) and is 375 yards and three picks with no touchdowns in 62 attempts. Ke’travion Hargrove leads the ground game with 392 yards and Javon Robinson has 37 catches for 457 receiving yards.
Eaglin leads the Bulldogs with 669 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, Lankford has 1,081 passing yards and seven scores with six picks splitting time with Cornelious Brown and Hambrick’s 36 receptions and 594 yards leads the receiving corps.
