Two of the top offenses in the FCS collide Saturday when unbeaten Delaware visits Monmouth
Delaware (4-0) is ranked fourth in the Football Championship Subdivision in both scoring offense and scoring defense, hanging up 42.0 points per game while surrendering just 13.0. On Saturday, the Fightin’ Blue Hens visit Coastal Athletic Association rival Monmouth (3-2) with the challenge of slowing down the top offense in FCS. The Hawks score 44.2 points per game on 524.2 yards of total offense an outing, both ranked No. 1 in the nation. Monmouth has won three straight games since an 0-2 start and both teams are 1-0 in CAA play.

Delaware blanked visiting Sacred Heart 49-0 on Sept. 28 at home. Zach Marker threw for 183 yards and three touchdowns and Sean Wilson caught a pair of touchdown passes. Starting quarterback Ryan O’Connor was not dressed due to an upper-body injury. Phil Lutz tops the receivers with 13 catches for 323 yards and five TDs. Keyshawn Hunter and Melkart Abou-Jaoude have 3.5 sacks each.
The Hawks hung up 35 second-quarter points against visiting Fordham on Sept. 28 en route to a 63-21 romp. Monmouth ran for 407 yards, with Sone Ntoh (136), Jamir Barnes (134) and Rodney Nelson (128) all topping the century mark. Ntoh scored five touchdowns on the ground as well.
The Fightin’ Blue Hens are 2-0 all-time against the Hawks, most recently picking up a 49-17 win at home on Nov. 5, 2022. Delaware has gone to two straight FCS playoffs, losing in the second round each time. Monmouth last reached the FCS postseason in 2020.
This is Delaware’s final season in FCS as the program is moving up to join Conference USA in the FBS next year.
