Virginia State and Virginia Union hit the field on Saturday afternoon in the CIAA Football Championship
The Virginia State Trojans take on the Virginia Union Panthers on Saturday afternoon in the CIAA Championship. The two teams met last week with the Trojans getting a 35-28 win that helped them secure a spot in the championship game on Saturday. The Trojans never trailed in the game, but the Panthers did tie the game early in the third quarter. A 91-yard pass from Romelo Williams to Malik Hunter gave the Trojans back the lead and a 23-yard touchdown run from Jimmyll Williams gave them a 14-point lead just four minutes later. The Panthers would cut it to seven just 14 seconds in the fourth, but couldn’t get the tying touchdown. The win pushed the Trojans record to 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the CIAA. They have now won five in a row and are playing their best football of the year. They did lose three of four before their run, but those losses came by a combined 10 points.

The Panthers are looking to get some revenge on the Trojans and win a conference title on Saturday afternoon.
They had won six games in a row and were coming off a dominating 91-0 win over Bluefield State University the week before.
Their offense had been clicking as they had scored at least 31 points in each of their six straight wins and had scored at least 56 in their last three.
They were slowed down at times in their loss last week, but will look to get their offense back on track and get the win.
