Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs kick off the NBA preseason against the Oklahoma City Thunder today.
The two most fascinating teams in the Western Conference heading into the 2024-2025 season are the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder. After a season of experiments and adventures to learn how to build around rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama the team settled on adding Chris Paul, Harrison Barnes and Malachi Flynn in the offseason after drafting Stephon Castle. They are building for the future, but with Wembanyama on the court and head coach Greg Popovich on the sideline the team has the potential to crash the playoffs sooner than expected. Paul is no stranger to improving bad or mediocre teams in his first season leading the then New Orleans Hornets to a 20 win improvement as a rookie, the Los Angeles Clippers to an eight win improvement and the Phoenix Suns to a 17 win improvement.
