The Dallas Mavericks will go for their first win of the preseason when they host the Utah Jazz on Thursday night. The Mavericks still have very high hopes of a championship this season after overachieving by getting to the NBA Finals last season. In its first game back as a team, Dallas dropped to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday 121-116. The highlight of the game honestly came from Ja Morant looked like he had jet packs strapped to his shoes to block a would-be layup from Naji Marshall. Despite the loss, Jaden Hardy had a good game leading all scorers with 21 points. Dallas was great with a -9 turnover ratio but if the team is to learn anything from this game is that they can be much more aggressive on the boards. Memphis outrebounded Dallas 55-36. Guard Dante Exum is the only player listed as out for this game for the Mavs but there are several listed as a game-time decision. That includes the Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic who has an estimated return date of October 24

Utah is off to a much better start to this preseason with a 2-0 record. The Jazz opened the preseason with a tuneup against the New Zealand Breakers where Utah cruised to victory. The Jazz looked just as comfortable when getting back to NBA play in their last preseason game beating the Houston Rockets 122-113. Lauri Markkanen led the team with 17 points in a game where the Rockets were leading for most of the three quarters. After making the playoffs for six straight years, Utah is trying to avoid missing the playoffs for a third consecutive year this season.
