Alperen Sengun and the Houston Rockets take on Lauri Markkanen and the Utah Jazz in the NBA preseason today.
The Utah Jazz (1-0) started off preseason against the New Zealand Breakers in a 116-87 win. Head coach Will Hardy started Lauri Markkanen, Taylor Hendricks, Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton and Keyonte George in the win. They all played 25 minutes or less to make way for the bench, rookies and other young players to get on the court and make an impact. Up next are the Houston Rockets in their first preseason game. Last season Houston knocked on the door of the play-in tournament before it was closed on them down the stretch. This season they look to build on that momentum led by do-it-all big man Alperen Sengun, veterans Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and a cast of young stars.

Houston has an embarrassment of riches on the roster after years drafting high in the lottery and drafting well with later picks. Head coach Ime Udoka will look for opportunities to play Amen Thompson, Cam Whitmore, Tari Eason and rookie Reed Sheppard, who is one of the best shooting prospects in years.
All of that young talent in Houston is similar to the young talent in Utah, which had a chance to get on the court in its first preseason game. Second year playmaker George finished with 12 points and five assists while third-year big man Kessler finished with eight points and nine rebounds.
Third-year forward Johnny Juzang led all scorers with 19 points off the bench shooting 5-6 from three. Brice Sensabaugh added 12 points and six rebounds while rookie wing Cody Williams finished with six points in his preseason debut.
