Oklahoma City picked up a win in its first preseason game without MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. In the win Jalen Williams finished with 18 points in 17 minutes and Chet Holmgren went 5-for-5 from the field with 10 points in just nine minutes of action. Those two will be featured this season, along with Gilgeous-Alexander, as one of the best young trios in the league that took Oklahoma City to the second round of the playoffs last season. This season they have their eyes on going even further and to bring Oklahoma City its first NBA Championship.

    The new additions to this already deep and dangerous Oklahoma City team delivered as advertised. Alex Caruso (five points and five assists) and Isaiah Hartenstein (four points, eight rebounds and seven assists) came off the bench playing 17 minutes each, playing together in all of those minutes, and being a team best 20-plus in box plus-minus.

    For Houston it started off the preseason with a 122-113 loss to the Utah Jazz. In the loss Jalen Green led the way with 21 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three. Alperen Sengun added 17 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals on 6-of-8 shooting to pace the offense.

    The young stars for Houston also played well with Amen Thompson finishing with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting as a starter and Cam Whitmore adding 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench. Rookie Reed Sheppard struggled from the field with just four points, three assists and three rebounds on 0-of-4 shooting from three in 20 minutes.
