Steph Curry starts his 16th season for the Golden State Warriors against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.

For the first time since the 2011-12 season the Golden State Warriors take the court with only one Splash Brother on the roster. Klay Thompson moved on in free agency to a new home in Dallas, leaving two-time MVP Stephen Curry alone on the perimeter. Golden State will lean on Curry in his 16th season and Draymond Green even more than normal with Thompson off the roster, which retooled during free agency giving its All-Star duo more depth. De’Anthony Melton, Kyle Anderson and Buddy Hield make their debuts for Golden State on Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers on the road. Golden State has won six straight against Portland and is 10-1 overall against this young, rebuilding Portland team over the past three seasons.

For his career Curry has averaged 27.1 points per game in the regular season against Portland in 41 games. That is the second most against any team in his career during the regular season and most against any team he has played at least 26 games against. In the playoffs that goes up to 33.4 points per game in 10 games.

Curry looks to get off to a strong start in the season opener and lead Golden State to the playoffs. He will need someone to step up with Thompson gone. Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and Brandin Podziemski have all shown flashes, with Kuminga coming off a career season last year.

Portland is in the fourth year of a rebuild with the team winning just 81 total games and collecting three lottery picks over the last three seasons. Scoot Henderson and Donovan Clingan are the future of the franchise, with 2022 lottery pick Shaedon Sharpe (shoulder) expected to miss the first month of the season.

    Regional restrictions may apply.
