Last season Cleveland swept the season series winning all four games by 10 points or less. Donovan Mitchell went off in one of the wins over Detroit finishing with a season-high 45 points adding eight assists and six rebounds.

Mitchell only needed to play 28 minutes in the first game of the season finishing with 21 points on 7-14 shooting. All five starters played 28 minutes or less in the win, opening the bench to carry the load after building a 20 point halftime lead and a 26 point lead after the third quarter.

Detroit finished with six total players in double-figures led by Cunningham in the season-opening loss. Jaden Ivey (17 points), Tim Hardaway Jr. (14 points on 4-7 shooting from three), Malik Beasley (14 points), Jalen Duran (13 points and 13 rebounds) and Tobias Harris (13 points) gave the Detroit offense more balance than last season.
