Donovan Mitchell leads the Cleveland Cavaliers to start the season against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.

The Cleveland Cavaliers head into the third season with the core group of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley. Two seasons ago Cleveland was eliminated in the third round and last season the team made the second round for the just the third time in 53 years without LeBron James on the roster. This season Donovan Mitchell looks to lead Cleveland even further in the playoffs. That journey starts off against the Toronto Raptors, who are in the midst of rebuilding around forward Scottie Barnes. Toronto is a wildcard this season in the Eastern Conference with Barnes surrounded by quality veterans in Jakob Poeltl, RJ Barrett and Bruce Brown along with young talent in Immanuel Quickley, Gradey Dick and rookie Ja’Kobe Walter.

Last season Toronto finished 12th in the Eastern Conference and outside of the Play-In Tournament. Toronto finally pulled the cord on a rebuild, trading the final core pieces of its championship team in Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby to create the opportunity for this rebuild.

For Cleveland the team enters this season with the sixth-best odds to win the Eastern Conference. Last season Cleveland finished fourth in the conference with 48 wins and were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

With a healthy quartet of potential All-Stars led by Mitchell, this Cleveland team has the potential to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this season. New head coach Kenny Atkinson looks to give the team a fresh voice, build on the defensive identity and unlock the potential of Mobley in his fourth season as one of the best all-around players in the league.
