LaMelo Ball is back and leading the Charlotte Hornets against the lowly Washington Wizards on Thursday.
After missing seven straight games LaMelo Ball returned to action for the Charlotte Hornets (7-19) in their last game. It was a modest return with just 15 points and 11 assists in a loss. Before going down with a calf injury Ball was on a heater, scoring 161 points over his last four games. Ball is one of just four players this season averaging more than 30 points per game, along with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. With Ball back in the lineup Charlotte will try to get back in the win column against the lowly Washington Wizards (3-21), who have lost 19 of their last 20 games, on Thursday. This is the first game of the season between the two Eastern Conference rivals who are currently in the bottom three of the standings in conference.

Charlotte could be without second-year wing Brandon Miller (leg) who left the game early in Ball’s return. This season Miller is averaging 21.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in his sophomore campaign.
With Miller potentially out, that opens up more scoring opportunities for Ball. This season he is averaging a career-best 30.2 points per game along with 7.2 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game. He has gone off for at least 30 points 12 times this season, which is already a career-high for a season for Ball.
On the other side for Washington this season not much has gone the team’s way. The rookie trio of Alex Sarr (10.9 points per game), Carlton Carrington (9.0 points per game) and Kyshawn George (7.5 points per game) have given Washington hope for the future.
