After falling just short of making it to the NBA Cup Finals the Atlanta Hawks (14-13) are back in action to continue their impressive season. Through the first quarter of the season Atlanta has become the surprise team in the Eastern Conference winning seven of its last nine games. They hit the road to take on Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs (13-13) for the first time this season. San Antonio might be the surprise team in the Western Conference sitting just outside of the play-in standings, but have nine more wins at this point in the season than it did last season showing growth led by veteran Chris Paul.

Having a veteran like Paul in the lineup has helped organize San Antonio and give the team an identity on the offensive end. He is averaging 9.6 points and 8.4 assists per game with nine double-doubles leading the team to a 6-3 record in those games.

For Atlanta this season it is showing the signs of being one of the best offenses in the league. They are ninth in scoring (116.2), third in assists (29.6), third in free-throw attempts and fifth in shots made inside the three-point line. All that is built around the duo of Trae Young and emerging young star Jalen Johnson.

This season Young is leading the league in assists averaging 21.5 points and 12.1 assists per game. His running mate Johnson is having a career-best start to the season with 19.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game, stuffing the statsheet every game.
