The two teams split their four meetings last year. Maine kicked things off with a 5-2 win in Orono in December, before New Hampshire then won both of its home games in a weekend set in February. The four matchup came in the Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals, which saw the home team win once again as Maine claimed a 5-0 victory.
Home ice advantage has played a big role in this series in recent years. Maine hasn’t won in Durham since February of 2019, although the teams have tied three times at the Whitmore Center since.
Maine comes in after a multi-point weekend last weekend, when the Black Bears visited No. 11 Boston University for a pair of games. Maine won the first game 5-2 then played to a 2-2 tie the next day.
New Hampshire was also in conference play last weekend, and had a home-and-home with Northeastern. The Wildcats picked up a 4-1 win on Friday at home, then played the Huskies to a 1-1 tie at Matthews Arena on Saturday.
