Tuesday night’s game was a back-and-forth contest. The Phillies got the first lead going up 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, but the Giants got the first significant lead by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth. Philly responded with two in the bottom of the sixth, and the two teams remained knotted from there. Each side scored once in the 10th before the Giants put up three runs in the 11th. The Phillies failed to answer in the bottom half of that inning.
Outfielder Luis Gonzalez put on yet another impressive performance in the Giants’ win. Gonzalez was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. With that effort, he’s now batting .347 on the season through 101 at-bats in 31 games.
As the Giants go for the sweep, they send big-money free-agent signee Carlos Rondon to the hill. The lefty is 4-4 with a 3.60 ERA this season. He’ll be opposed by former first-round pick Aaron Nola, who has a 3.56 ERA and is 2-4 on the season.
