The Kansas City Royals visit the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday afternoon in Game 1 of their Wild Card series. It is the first time the Royals have been in the playoffs since 2015 when they won the World Series. They also made the playoffs in 2014 when they lost in the World Series. In fact, the last three times the Royals have been in the playoffs they have made the World Series. There was a 29-year gap between 1985 to 2014 where they missed the playoffs every single year. The Royals haven’t been the most prolific team in baseball, but they have taken advantage of their time in the postseason. They are hoping for the same results when they start their run on Tuesday. First up is the Orioles who lost in the ALDS last year after winning the AL East.

The Orioles were swept in that series against the Texas Rangers last year and are hoping for a better performance this season.
They came up short of winning the division this year to the New York Yankees, but are still looking to make a run in the playoffs.
The Orioles finished the season 91-71 and had the third best record in the AL. Unfortunately for them, one of the teams with a better record was the Yankees who finished three games ahead of them in the AL East. That pushed the Orioles to the wild card and to play in the first round series with the Royals.
