The New York Mets turn to veteran Jose Quintana to close out the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday and move on to the National League Championship Series.
After pitching six innings of shutout baseball in the National League Wild Card Series, Jose Quintana (10-10, 3.75 ERA) will try to send the Mets to the National League Championship Series when he takes the mound Wednesday against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4. If the Mets win, it would be their first time in the NLCS since 2015. The Phillies, who evened the series in Game 2 behind a three-hit performance by right fielder Nick Castellanos, came back twice from a two-run deficit, but were unable to plate a run in Tuesday’s Game 3 loss. They managed just three hits off starter Sean Manaea, who picked up his first career playoff win after striking out six batters over seven-plus innings.

After failing to advance out of the Wild Card series in 2016, New York missed the playoffs in five consecutive years before turning the managerial reigns over to Buck Showalter, who has led the Mets to the postseason twice in his first three seasons.
The Phillies are now tasked with winning Wednesday’s Game 4 and Friday’s “if necessary” Game 5 at home to advance to their third consecutive Championship Series. Philadelphia won the NLCS in 2022 before losing to Houston in the World Series and lost last year in seven games to Arizona.
This series marks the first time the National League East rivals have ever met in the postseason.
