Kyle Higashioka and the San Diego Padres will take the field against Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.
The San Diego Padres will head on the road for the first game of a best-of-five series in the MLB Divisional round of the playoffs against the MLB-leading Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in California on Saturday night. The Padres finished the season with a 93-69 record, just five games back from their opponent in the division. Because of that, they were forced into the Wild Card round where they took on the Atlanta Braves who came in No. 2 in the NL East. San Deigo shut out Atlanta in the first game of the best-of-three series 4-0 with a home run from Fernando Tatis Jr and a sacrifice fly RBI and a home run from Kyle Higashioka. They turned around the next day and won 5-4. San Diego went up 5-1 at the end of the second inning with another home run from Higashioka, a two-run double from Manny Machado, and a two-run triple from Jackson Merrill.

The Dodgers avoided the Wild Card round of the playoffs by winning the NL West by five games over the Padres. In fact, with the 98 wins that they finished with, they beat the Philadelphia Phillies by three games to have the best record in the entire MLB at the end of the regular season.
On the offensive side of the ball, Shohei Ohtani led the team in the regular season with 197 hits and 54 home runs. He also led the team with 130 RBIs and .310 batting average. Tyler Glasnow was the team’s best pitcher and finished with a 3.49 ERA over 134.0 innings pitched. He had a 9-6 record with 168 strikeouts as well.
