The A’s look to salvage a win in the final game of this series against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox have won four of their last five games and look to sweep the series against the Oakland Athletics in the first game of the MLB slate today. Boston has also only lost two games since June started. Amazingly, four of five AL East teams would be in the playoffs if the playoffs started today. Boston has to keep it up, though, because Cleveland is only a half-game back of Boston for the last wild card spot.

That roll continued against the A’s when Boston dominantly beat Oakland 10-1 to take the series victory in game two. Rookie Josh Winckowski went five strong innings giving up no runs to win the first game of his big league career. The run support was no issue either, as the Red Sox scored first in the first and never looked back. Boston used the long ball to put away Oakland. Rafael Devers has now hit a homer in four straight games.
The Athletics will try to snap their four-game losing streak by starting Paul Blackburn. He has stood out in the A’s rotation, going 5-2 with a 2.31 ERA. Boston will rely on old reliable Rich Hill and he’s still providing excellent value at 42 with a 2-3 record and a 4.38 ERA.
