The Washington Nationals try to avoid losing three in a row when they travel to take on their division rival the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies host the Washington Nationals for a three-game series this weekend starting Friday night. Philadelphia leads the season series so far 2-1 when it won the first series back at the beginning of April in the nation’s capital. Philadelphia continues its great season with a 31-14 record and a 2.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the lead in the NL East. Philadelphia is coming off a series win where it very nearly swept the New York Mets in four games. The Phillies are coming off a 6-5 loss though in their last game to drop the finale but it was in eleven innings. J.D. Martinez hit the go-ahead single in the top of the 11th to avoid te sweep in this home-and-home series. The Mets were able to overcome a Philly rally after Edwin Diaz blew the save in the ninth when pinch hitter Bryson Stott hit a game-tying single in the ninth. Philadelphia will stay home and start one of its best in Zack Wheeler who is 4-3 with a 2.53 ERA. The Phillies are big -250 favorites in the opener against another division rival tonight.
