Shohei Ohtani will return for Game 3 as the World Series heads to New York as the Yankees host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
The World Series heads to the Bronx for one of the most hyped-matchup in the October Classic in decades when the New York Yankees host the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night. Yankees fans may not agree, but this series has lived up to the hype through the first two games so far. There was little chance any game could live up to the monumental walk-off Freddie Freeman grand slam of Game 1, but Game 2 didn’t disappoint in what turned out to be another great pitcher’s duel. The difference was that the duel only came from one team and that was from the Dodgers who won 4-2 on Saturday. The West Coast vibes were strong with Ice Cube performing ‘It Was a Good Day’ and it certainly was for LA fans because of starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The righty was simply phenomenal earning his second win of the postseason in truly dominating fashion. He only gave up one hit, a homer to Juan Soto in the third, in 6.1 innings.
The Dodger bullpen took over from there and didn’t give up another hit until the ninth. That’s when things got really dicey for the Dodgers. That was predecated though by Shohei Ohtani leaving the game earlier and the baseball world lost their collective breath as it appeared the superstar injured his shoulder during a caught stealing attempt in the seventh. It is being reported that Ohtani dislocated his shoulder on the slide and thankfully he will recover and play in Game 3. This series and baseball is better when its biggest star is in the lineup.

The Yankees loaded the bases after Giancarlo Stanton singled home Soto to cut the lead to two runs. Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch and Jazz Chisholm Jr. singled to load the bases for Anthony Volpe who has been so important to this New York run to its first World Series since 2009. Volpe had an RBI in Game 1 but he went 0-4 on back-to-back nights after striking out with bases loaded on Saturday with just one out. Jose Trevino came into the game as the Yankees last chance but just missed a homer to fly out to end the game. A change of scenery back home should help the Yankees get back in this series.
New York will start Clarke Schmidt who hasn’t earned a win or a loss this postseason but has a 3.86 ERA this October and he had a 2.85 ERA during the regular season. Walker Buehler will go for Los Angeles who is still trying to get back to his former dominant self. Buehler was great in his last start against the New York Mets in a game LA eventually won 8-0. He went four innings and only gave up three hits after going five innings against San Diego where he gave up six runs. The bullpen has been great all playoffs so this game will be all about which Buehler will show up tonight. New York is the -150 favorite when this series shifts back to the Empire State.
