The Chicago Cubs will look to feed off a 15-run win on Friday in game two against the Philadelphia Phillies.
On any other night, the Cubs scoring 15 runs would have been the most impressive thing happening in the majors. That’s exactly what they did in the opener against the Phillies, securing a 15-2 victory. That’s incredibly impressive, but the Blue Jays won 28-5, setting a franchise record in runs on Friday night. Either way, there was an offensive surge across the league last night.

Nelson Velazquez significantly contributed to that offense for the Cubs in the win. He hit two homers and drove home five. He hit both of his homers from each side of the plate. He did something rare in Cubs history, hitting those home runs. He became the second player in Cubs history since 1901 to hit two homers in a pinch-hitting situation.
The Cubs will go for the series win tonight by starting the veteran Marcus Stroman, who is 2-5 with a 4.69 ERA. The Phillies hope to erase the loss from their memory and start Zack Wheeler and he is 8-5 with a 2.89 ERA.
