Each team has a win, with Oakland winning the first game of the series and then Seattle evening up the series with a win in game two. Both teams have scored nine runs apiece. The series is as even as it gets between the two AL West rivals who are currently in second and third place this season. On the mound today for Seattle is the team’s ace right-hander, Luis Castillo (3-5, 3.35 ERA) who is off to a slow start this season. Through his first eight starts Castillo has 56 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched, but is coming off a loss that snapped a run of three straight wins for Castillo in three starts.
He will be challenged by one of the lowest scoring offenses in the majors this season in Oakland who will have veteran left-hander Alex Wood (1-2, 5.30 ERA) on the mound. This season Wood has 32 strikeouts in 37.1 innings pitched in eight games so far this season for an Oakland team that is on the rise.
In the first game of the series Seattle’s Dylan Moore set a career-high with five runs batted in for his team, including a two-run home run. Then in game two of the series rookie pitcher Joey Estes picked up his first win of the season while striking out five and evening the series.
