Yesterday, the game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Angels’ Luis Rengifo hit a solo blast to make it 1-0. Lou Trivino gave up an RBI walk in the sixth to give the Angels the 2-0 lead. Rengifo struck again with an RBI single to extend the lead bringing home Mike Trout for his 1000th run.
Andre Velazquez made it 5-0 for the Angels in the seventh with a two-run homer. The A’s finally got on the board in the eighth with an RBI single from Sheldon Neuse. Jed Lowrie’s RBI double closed that gap a bit more making it 5-2. The final run would come from Lowrie on a wild pitch, but it wouldn’t be enough for Oakland.
The Angels will look to Patrick Sandoval today. Sandoval is 2-1 on the season with a 1.91 ERA and 31 strikeouts. Cole Irvin will get the start for the Athletics. Irvin is also 2-1 on the season with a 2.93 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
