The Reno Aces struck first, winning the opener of their six-game series with the Tacoma Rainiers. The teams face-off again on Wednesday.
The Reno Aces (16-18) opened their six-game series at Greater Nevada Field on Tuesday afternoon with a win over the Tacoma Rainiers (19-15). The set continues on Wednesday night in Reno with the Aces climbing into a sixth-place tie in the Pacific Coast League standings with the Las Vegas Aviators. Tacoma retained its hold on fourth place in the PCL, but dropped four games behind the league-leading Sugar Land Space Cowboys. The Rainiers, the Triple-A club for the Seattle Mariners, house the organization’s 10th and 11th ranked prospects, per MLB Pipeline in outfielder Jonatan Clase, 21, and 24-year-old middle infielder Ryan Bliss. Top Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar, a 21-year-old shortstop, remains sidelined for Reno after thumb surgery this spring.

The Aces got out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and held on for a 6-4 win on Tuesday. Seven of Reno’s 11 hits went for extra bases, with Sergio Alcántara driving in two runs with a pair of doubles and Adrian Del Castillo lined a homer to right field in the third inning.
Brian Anderson cracked a solo homer for Tacoma in the fourth inning, Isiah Gilliam lofted a run-scoring triple to left in the same frame and Blake Hunt’s two-run double in the eighth inning closed the scoring.
Blake Walston (1-0), a 22-year-old left-hander, gets the start for the Aces on Wednesday night. Over five appearances, four of them starts, Walston has a 4.79 ERA and 1.84 WHIP in 20.2 innings. The Rainiers have yet to announce a starting pitcher.
