UMass and Louisiana Tech meet for the first time to tip-off the Icons of the Game doubleheader on Long Island on Wednesday in college basketball.
UMass (1-1) looks to bounce back from its first loss when it heads to Nassau Coliseum in to take on Louisiana Tech (2-0) in the inaugural Icons of the Game doubleheader on Wednesday. The Minutemen were 20-11 last season but did not play in the postseason, with coach Frank Martin now 36-28 in his third season. Their last NCAA tournament bid came in 2014. The Bulldogs last tasted postseason basketball when it finished third in the 2021 NIT. They were 22-10 last season and coach Talvin Hester, also in his third year, is 39-28.

Louisiana Tech’s fast start carried it to a 92-77 win at UT Arlington on Saturday. Daniel Batcho dropped in 28 points, Amaree Abram added 23, Will Jeffress finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Newman Jr. logged 10 points and 11 assists. The Bulldogs led by as much as 23 and their lead never got into single digits in the second half.
UMass trailed by as much as 18 early in the second half before rallying to make it close in a 75-69 loss at West Virginia on Friday night. Rahsool Diggins scored 19 points in the loss, Daniel Rivera added 14, Jaylen Curry finished with 13 points and seven assists and Daniel Hankins-Sanford booked 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Wednesday night’s matchup is the first between the Minutemen and Bulldogs. Batcho leads Louisiana Tech with 43 points through two games, with Abram adding 33. Jeffress has 25 points and 16 rebounds and Kaden Cooper logged 26 points and 16 boards. Newman already has 19 assists. Diggins leads UMass with 45 points, Curry has 22 points and 19 dimes and Malek Abdelgowad paces the team with 16 rebounds.
