Virginia and Virginia Tech face off for the second time in two weeks when this rivalry moves to Blacksburg, VA on Saturday.
Virginia is trying to move back over .500 but it will go on the road to face its biggest in-state rival on Saturday in Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers are also trying to win three in a row but Virginia has a 2-5 road record and lost on the first of the month against the Hokies. These two faced off for the first time this season two Saturdays ago in Charlottesville, Va. and the Virginia Tech held on by the slightest of margins winning 75-74. The Cavs put a valiant effort coming back from a 13-point deficit but in the end it wasn’t enough. Andrew Rohde had a chance to win the game with the last possession but his contested shot rimmed out at the buzzer. Rohde had 12 points and Isaac McKneely led the team with 19 points and career-high seven assists.

Virginia is coming off a big 75-61 win in an ACC battle against Georgia Tech last Saturday in its last game to get back to 12-12. It was Tony Bennett day for Virginia celebrating their 15-year head coach who retired in October. The Cavaliers showed out for their former coach hitting 11 threes and shooting from nearly a 50 percent clip. McKneely led the team once again with 20 points. Virginia came out firing quickly starting the game with a 9-0 run and the Cavaliers never really looked back. Virginia went on a 10-0 run to start the second half to seal the deal. They’ll need to get off to a similar fast start to pull off just their third road win of the season.
Virginia Tech is trying to win back-to-back games in its quest to get back to .500 currently sitting at 11-13. The Hokies are coming off an impressive 65-63 win over Notre Dame last Saturday. Tobi Lawal put up 15 points to lead the Hokies and he added 10 rebounds. Brandon Rechsteiner was automatic at the free throw line making seven alone in the final minute allowing the Hokies to complete the rally after trailing for a majority of the game. Virginia Tech is the slight 1.5-point favorite at home in what is anticipated to be a very close rivalry game.
