Luca de la Torre and the United States will take the pitch against Matthew Garbett on Tuesday night in a men’s international friendly.
The USMNT will take on New Zealand in an international friendly in men’s soccer tonight. The United States has been in the headlines recently with its early exit in Copa America, which was hosted in the US. They beat Bolivia and then lost two straight games to Panama and Uruguay to get bounced in the group stage, not even making the knockout stage. On top of that, head coach Gregg Berhalter was fired and replaced for the time being with Mikey Varas as interim. While Varas is coaching the team, the association has made preliminary reports that Mauricio Ponchettino has accepted the job, but the USMNT has yet to make that announcement official. The USMNT lost its last international friendly to Canada 2-1 for the US’s first loss to Canada in 67 years. Luca de la Torre scored the only goal for the US in the 66th minute of the game.

New Zealand has played three international friendlies in its last few games losing to Egypt 1-0, drawing with Tunisia 0-0, and losing to Mexico 3-0. New Zealand hasn’t scored an international goal since it took on the Republic of Ireland in November of 2023 and drew 1-1. Matthew Garbett was the lone goal scorer in that game.
New Zealand will head to take on Tahiti in the World Cup Qualifying after this friendly which the nation can use as a morale boost heading into those games. It will also take on Vanuatu and Samoa in November for the same reason.
