Nice can temporarily move into Ligue 1’s top four with a win at home to Rennes on Friday.
Rennes will make the long journey south to Nice on Friday in the hopes of bagging an upset win to start 2025 on the right foot when Ligue 1 gets back underway on Friday. Jorge Sampaoli’s side has won back-to-back fixtures for the first time this season and is in the hunt to make it three in a row when it travels to the French Riviera in pursuit of a first win at the Allianz Riviera in a little more than four years. Nice, on the other hand, can make the temporary leap from sixth place as high as fourth with a home win following a mixed run of results over the Christmas period.

Les Aiglons have won only two of their last nine fixtures across all competitions, but stand out as one of the most reliable home performers in Ligue 1 so far this season.
Paris Saint-Germain is the only other team in France’s top flight yet to taste defeat in front of its own fans this term, and only PSG (24) has scored more goals at home than Nice (18).
And it just so happens Rennes is one of the worst performing road teams in Ligue 1 as things stand, having taken just a single point from the 21 on offer and are still waiting on a first league win on the road.
Rennes raided Bordeaux 4-1 win just prior to Christmas and advanced to the last 32 of the Coupe de France, with four different players getting on the score sheet.
That marked the end of an eight-match run without a win on the road, dating back to last season’s win away to Metz in May 2024.
More than four years have passed since Les Rouges et Blancs last got the better of Nice at its own ground, however, having endured some difficult times at the Allianz Riviera more recently.
