The visiting side heads into the meeting as the top-ranked club in the Apertura 2024 standings, with 19 points in seven matches so far in the tournament. La Máquina has been able to secure six wins and dropped points just once this season, in a 1-1 draw against fellow undefeated side Toluca on July 20. Since then, the club from Mexico City has won its last three matches in a row. The run began with a 2-0 victory over Querétaro on Aug. 23, thanks to goals from Carlos Rotondi and Amaury Rosales Rosas.

Cruz Azul actually went down 1-0 in the 17th minute following a goal from Brian Rodríguez, only to score a pair of goals just before halftime to take the lead. Giorgos Giakoumakis and Ángel Sepúlveda found the back of the net just before the whistle.
Then, Alexis Gutiérrez and Lorenzo Faravelli got on the scoresheet in the second half to secure all three points for the club.
Finally, in its most recent outing, Cruz Azul took a narrow 2-1 finish over León on Saturday, thanks to goals from Faravelli and Rotondi. Rotondi scored the game-winner with just seven minutes left in regular time.
