The History of Club América
Founding and Early Years
Club América, one of the most storied football clubs in Mexico, was founded on October 12, 1916, by a group of college students from Colegio Mascarones and Colegio Marista de la Perpetua. The team was named “América” in honor of Columbus Day, and its colors were chosen to be navy blue and yellow. The club quickly established itself in the Mexican Football League, winning its first Primera Fuerza title in the 1924-25 season and securing three more consecutive titles in the following years.
