ACC Tournament play continues on Tuesday afternoon as Virginia and Syracuse meet in the quarterfinal round.

On Tuesday afternoon, fourth-seeded Virginia and fifth-seeded Syracuse will kick off ACC Tournament play with a game in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Orange finished off regular season play with an overall record of 12-5 and a conference record of 4-4. The team dropped its regular season finale to No. 9 Boston College on Friday in a tough 1-0 defeat at home. The teams played a pretty even match with the Eagles just narrowly outshooting the Orange 8-6. The game was scoreless until one minute of time remained on the clock and Madelieve Drion was able to put the ball in the cage after finishing a rebounded shot. Louise Pert played strong in goal and made three saves, but it wasn’t enough for the team to earn the win and the four seed in the tournament.

The Cavaliers have had a strong season this year and finished conference play with a 6-2 record. Overall, the team only suffered three losses with each coming against ranked opponents. On Friday, Virginia closed out regular season play with a 2-1 double overtime win against Wake Forest. Jans Croon scored in the first quarter to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead, but Wake Forest came out of the locker room fired up and the equalizer was scored just a minute into the second half. Dani Mendez-Trendler emerged a hear in the second overtime period, scoring with just two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the game. Nilou Lempers played the first 60 minutes in the cage for Virginia before Tyler Kennedy played the final 20 minutes.

When Syracuse and Virginia met earlier this season, the game ended up in a shootout after it was still tied 2-2 at the end of overtime. Virginia ended up getting the win with Mia Abello putting the back in the back of the net during sudden death.
